Life in the Maui lane

Here are just a few things that go bump in the email.

Customer writes: "I opened my shipment box and a "Tick"  jumped out at me. tick Although there is no proof that the tick came from your shop, I wanted to let you know." Well this is a new one on me. We are no where near any animals or trees. MauiShirts.com is on the second floor of a shopping center building. I would understand if some other sort of insect jumped out of the box, but I would expect it would just fall out dead. The building perimeter is sprayed on a regular basis to fend off these crawly critters. My first answer should have been that the tick was my pet and I wondered where it had gone to. Sometimes there is no room for pity remarks. I bit my tongue and thanked the customer for the heads-up.

Customer writes: "I received a shirt from my friend as a gift so I could attend his wedding in Florida. I flew into Florida from my home town. I tried on the shirt. It was too small. I wore it to his wedding because there was not enough time to get a new one. I would like to return the shirt for a refund." I like this one. I replied to this man and said I am unable to sell used shirts. I can not refund you the money. Our return policy: Return / Exchange Policy . The shirt was purchased by someone else and, after all, you did wear the shirt for the wedding. It did serve its purpose. He wrote back and said: "I guess you folks in Hawaii have different rules about this sort of thing. I have returned many items of clothing that I have worn to shops here in my city without any problem." Yikes! I hope he did not return any underwear. Sheesh.

Customer writes: I purchased three shirts from you and when they arrived they had a terrible chemical-like odor. I hung them in my closet to see if the order would go away. I woke up in the middle of the night because the smell was so bad. I moved the shirts to another room. The next day I took them to a dry cleaners. I picked them up some days later, but the terrible odor was still there. I would like to return these shirts and replace them."  Well, I can assure you that no shirt or any garment for that matter, would ever get packed and shipped from MauiShirts.com if it had an odor. All apparel is new, fresh and clean and never worn. I personally pack all boxes. I would never send out a garment that had any sort of odor. It simply is not possible. I told the customer that the odor may have permeated while in transit. I would make a claim with the Post Office if I could obtain the packing box. I asked if the box it was shipped in remained. Of course it was no where to be found. I asked why did she not call the toll free number when the shirts first arrived. I asked for the shirts to be sent back for examination. I suspect the odor came from the dry cleaners. They probably sent them to the dry cleaners before wearing them. It is no uncommon for bad dry cleaners to leave cleaning fluid smell upon their work. Customer complained about the $ 7.50 steaming fee I charged when they returned their shirt for exchange because it did not fit. (Needless to say, they did not use the size chart).  This is how is flopped out of the box, (see image). This shirt was stuffed, crumpled up like a large soft baseball and shoved into the shipping box without any care what-so-ever. I would be embarrassed to do such a thing. This shirt would cost a $100.00 or more on the Mainland. Men’s Bamboo Courage Embroidered They paid $ 60.00. I can just scratch my head in amazement when this sort of thing happens. It just makes no sense at all. shirt-clump How much effort does it take to fold a shirt flat? How much time? Ten to twenty seconds?! I must tell you this. This is not uncommon. I’ve said it before and I say here again. I’m not your valet. I’m not your butler or maid. There is no reason to be disrespectful just because you purchased the incorrect size because you did not use the size charts. There is a toll free number on the bottom area of all 3,000 pages. Call if you need help. The size charts are accurate and they are on ALL pages. I take great care in packing and shipping your shirts and dresses. I fold them flat. I enclose them in white or festive tissue paper and I place them flat into a sturdy box.
