Aloha from Maui,

When the Hurricane print Sun Dress fits, it is a wonderful thing. Here is one customer’s sweet comment:

Thank you for all your help.  The dress arrived and it will be perfect for my wedding reception.

Big Breasts and the over-sized Blouse

March 2nd, 2008

Greetings fellow blog readers,

Every now and then, rare as it is, someone is unhappy with their purchase. I found this commentary from one unhappy person this day amongst the latest Yahoo customer ratings. No other web site posts their customer’s comments on the top area of all pages of their web site. MauiShirts.com has grown to be one of the largest resellers of family aloha wear on the planet because they listen to customer’s concerns and comments. Albeit, but this one is a little off key. Please read on. My comments are italicized and within parenthesis.

I rated overall as a 1 for this reason. (Sour grapes.) Tops run big and to return them would be a hassle & more than I bought them for. (Well, I suspect this person purchased a $ 15.52 rayon pull-over blouse. This style blouse is noted for fitting two sizes, hence, Small/Medium, Large/X-Large. There is a size chart on this style page as on all pages of every listing and every style. The tops do not run big or small. Their measurements are there on every, single page. I suspect this person’s is, and knows she is, a difficult fit. The cost to ship something back is between $ 3.00 and $ 5.00 via the U.S. Post Office with First Class or Priority Mail.)

Per the web site you just cant return them if they don’t fit. (This is just pure poop. You have six (6) months to return anything for exchange. And, you can exchange for ANY item. Who does this? No store on the mainland offers six months exchange privilages. Come on, give me a break here.) Must email them, or call, to get approval to send back at your expense. (Well, this simply makes common sense to anyone with half a brain. You can’t just arbitrarily send something back without notice to any merchant. You are, in fact, asked not to call. After all, we are on Maui. We are two to six hours earlier than you. Why call? It is simply unnecessary to call. You are asked to send an email. This information is in big red letters on a full size sheet of paper placed into everyone’s shipment box. It is a full size, thick, glossy sheet that explains how to make exchanges and send things back. You can’t miss it. There is a link on the top of all 2,500 pages of the web site telling you, explaining to you, in simple easy to understand language, how to do this. It is not complicated at all. And, of course, you must pay shipping charges. No merchant pays shipping charges for returns unless the merchant has made an error. Mauishirts pays all shipping charges, coming and going, when they make a mistake by sending the incorrect size, color or print.)

If the items are not folded correctly, a re-stocking fee etc. will cost you extra on top of shipping item back. (This is again just silly. You don’t have to fold anything ‘correctly’. Simply fold the shirt or dress flat as best you can. Of course, if you crumple up your shirt or dress like an old worn out T-Shirt or yesterday’s rumpled newspaper and shove it into an envelope or box and send it back that way, you will be charged a steaming fee; $ 7.50. It is not a “re-stocking” fee. It is a handling, re-listing and re-stocking fee. This also makes common sense. These garments are made by hand, in Honolulu, in very limited quantities. Unlike third world nations and China where they manufacture garments by the tens of thousands. These garments are made in very small quantities. For instance. A Paradise Found, rayon Sun Dress of a specific print would be initially sewn as follows; 3 in X-Small, 5 in Small, 10 in Medium & Large and 4 in X-Large. That’s it. Sometimes less, sometimes more, but never in the hundreds or thousands! Consider this. You read that there is one listed in stock in the “Available Selections” drop-down menu. You buy this single item without reading or taking note of the measurements in the size chart. Now, you received the shirt or dress. It does not fit. Your purchase took away the ability from someone else to make the same purchase who used the size chart. The item was taken down from the selections page when you made your purchase. It now has to be re-stocked, re-listed and re-inventoried. It might have been ordered to be made again. Now there might be two in stock instead of one. )

The tops I did order are beautiful, but too large. (Wow. A nice word.) They will however make great summer pajamas aka night shirts. I have over 43 inch bust thanks to my mothers genes. (Ahh, the truth..a hard to fit woman. And, not a bad idea, using a big blouse for PJs). Based on the fit, (I wonder why she did not read the size chart measurements of the garment?) I bought an X-large – like every store here in the mainland. (Stores on the mainland, for the most part, sell garments made in Thailand, China and other foreign countries. No two manufactures can agree on size measurements. That is a fact. And, you can try them on before you make a purchase). They state garment size is not your body size so I ordered my normal X-large thinking they would fit or be slightly tight in the bust area. Wrong!!! (Well, yes, that is wrong. Had you understood the words, “the measurements are not of your body, but measurements of the garment” you would have probably not made the purchase in the first place or looked to a Queen size item.) I would have to gain 75 pounds and 4 to 8 inches on my bust. I would have to order a SMALL come on! (This is just a nonsensical comment. It makes no sense at all. But, I’m confused here. Is she big or is she small?). I am NO small with my bust size. (That’s for sure!).They will however make great summer pajamas aka night shirts. I have over 43 inch bust thanks to my mothers genes. . Based on the fit, I bought an X-large – like every store here in the mainland. . They state garment size is not your body size so I ordered my normal X-large thinking they would fit or be slightly tight in the bust area. Wrong!!! I would have to gain 75 pounds and 4 to 8 inches on my bust. I would have to order a SMALL come on! . I am NO small with my bust size. .

Tops , fabrics , colors are great. (Wow, another kind word. This should have rated me, at least a two and not a lowly one). The measurements for you to order the correct size are way oversized. Buy 1 to 2 sizes smaller. (More nonsense. People, please use the size charts. Read the information. The size charts are accurate. If you are still confused, or need further help, please don’t hesitate to call for further size information. Call the toll free number and an assistant will measure any garment for you, so you can make a correct decision before you make your purchase).

Amazon.com Customer Feedback…

February 11th, 2008

I was very pleased with the seller. They called me personally when they realized the shirt I ordered was no longer available. She helped me pick out another shirt with similar qualities. The shirt was beautiful and loved by the person who received it. The packaging was the best I have ever received for clothing through the internet. This company should be proud of their quality of service.

International Compliments

January 28th, 2008
Dear Mauiman,
I have just received my Olive green Bird of Paradise sarong dress, and just wanted to say how absolutely delighted I am with both the purchase and your excellent customer services.
It has only taken just over a week to ship to my home in England; delivery on purchases I’ve made in this country can often take far longer with a fraction of the distance to travel !
I am very much looking forward to wearing it now, but alas I must wait for my next cruise.  As you can probably guess, we don’t exactly have the weather for it here in England; definitely not at this time of year… probably why resort-wear is virtually impossible to find here in the UK.
Thankyou ever so much.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Hatton
Lytham St. Annes,
England.

Service…Size Charts…Quality…Selection…Hmmm, I’m doing something right !

January 19th, 2008
My shirts arrived yesterday ; they are fantastic ! I love the casual
feel and great fit of them ; it’s not often that I find unique shirts
like these in my 3X size with a choice of colors too ! I’m so glad that
I found your site ; I’ve passed it along to folks in my address book who
enjoy high quality and unique shirts .
I’m 73 years old , loved airplanes since my days in grade school , and
had a 40 year career in engineering with McDonnell Douglas . Needless to
say , I;m fascinated with both the WW ll Boeing shirt and the WW l
fighter shirt as well ! They will be a welcome addition to the Boeing
commercial aircraft shirt that I already have .
I’ll wear your shirts proudly and be happy to tell all where they came
from ! I’ll be back ; your selection , generously proportioned sizes ,
product quality , and service are unequalled ! Thanks again for making
beautiful shirts that easily fit my larger than average size !
Best wishes ,
