We needed shirts for a casual Hawaiian wedding and found a great selection/competitive prices at MauiShirts.com. We ordered late Thursday evening on 6/19/08 and needed the shirts for the following Saturday’s wedding on 6/28/08. We live on the East coast so we used the Fed Ex 2nd day air option. The package left Hawaii on 6/23/08 and was on our doorstep by 2:15 PM EST Wednesday 6/25/08. Fed Ex tracking info was sent via email and we have no complaints about the quality of our ‘Made in the USA’ shirts. I’ve found them to be quite comfortable on a few 80 degree days we recently had and even wore one golfing yesterday. We whole-heartedly recommend MauiShirts.com based on our experience.  🙂

Customer with reading disabilities making a mountain out of a mole hill

Before you read this you should realize I see about one of these types of email complaints in every few thousand transactions. They are always between $ 20 and under $ 50.00 as the total sale. I figure it is someone who wants something for nothing or in this case, I suspect it is a total misinterpretation of the email sent out to everyone who wants an exchange or refund. This type of customer always, 100% of the time, ends their email communication with a threat. This one is no different. Not only will she not buy from MauiShirts.com again, (good – hehe), but she will make sure anyone she knows will also not buy. As far as I’m concerned, if she has any friends, I don’t want them or her as customers unless they promise to read or dial a phone to ask for explanation or help rather than go off the deep end. At first when I read the email I knew this person was a sandwich short of a picnic. There is no business on the Internet that would want someone to just arbitrarily send their purchase back without first requesting (permission), authorization to send something back. With that in mind, the customer’s math is all screwed up. So, enjoy. I got a good chuckle. My reply was kind and with out my usual sarcasm.

Firstly, let me explain that I have been to Maui before (on my honeymoon in 2004) and was quite happy with my visit.  I thought the island was very nice and the people were as well. 
I am however, very dissatisfied with my experience purchasing from your company.  I bought this item for 31.90.  Since it was for a wedding and I needed it shipped right away, I paid 19.70 for shipping charges.  When I purchased the item from Amazon, it stated nowhere that there was a 15% return fee for items returned.  So, 15% for the "restocking fee" (which I assure you is not that much of a hassle as I have worked in retail for most of my life) would be 4.79 for this item.  Take the 19.70 that I paid for in shipping the item to me in the first place plus the restocking fee of 4.79 and you have 24.49.  BUT, I also have to pay to have it shipped back, which probably will be around 5.00.  So, that takes it up to 29.49, more or little less, for an item that I would no longer have.  That’s only about 2.41 I will get back.  That is hardly worth sending back to you so you can turn around and sell it to someone else.
The process of returning an item is uncalled for as well.  A person should not have to write in for "permission" to send something back that does not fit them and they do not like and we certainly shouldn’t have to do anything else after that.  Your reply email is very confusing and since it was so long, I didn’t bother to read the whole thing through. 
This is the greatest inconvenience I have ever had with purchasing something through the Internet and I will never purchase from you again.  I have also instructed the people I know to never purchase from you unless they are certain they will not need to return the item.
Utter nonsense.

There are no fees for returns that are for exchanges.
Possibly you did not read this.

There is a 15% handling, re-listing and re-stocking fee for returns that are not for
exchanges. This is only reasonable.
The information about the handling, re-listing, re-stocking is on all Amazon.com listings.
It is called "SELLERS POLICY" or "View Shipping rates and policies".
I’m sorry you did not see it and read it.

You are purchasing hand made items, made in limited quantities. 
The demand has been greater than the supply for over ten years now.
In many instances, your purchase disables someone else from
buying the same item.

This apparel is not made in China or other foreign nations in great quantities.

When your return arrives on Maui, more than likely it will have to be steamed,
pressed, re-stocked, re-hung, re-inventoried and probably re-listed.

There are size charts and images for all listings.
No other apparel web site offers more variety with a size chart for every style.
A great deal of time is put into creating size charts.

Every Amazon.com listing of our apparel has this statement.

HALTER  Love the dresses, fit was EXACTLY based on their measurements, as they stated. Shipping was super fast, and dresses were beautifully packed, tissue paper and all. For such inexpensive dresses, it is very obvious they take a lot of pride in their products
I liked the pictures of actual people wearing the clothes, the wedding pictures, it gave me lots of ideas as well as a reference point as to how the dresses would fit and hang. I look forward to sending in my wedding pictures to join the others!

long tank  I am so pleased with MauiShirts!  I recently ordered my wedding dress through them and so happy with it.  It is exactly what I had in mind, it actually looks better than the picture and the quality is excellent.  The shipping was very reasonable, it was around $10, and since it came all the way from Maui I think that was pretty reasonable.  It arrived to me in 7 days all the way to South Carolina.  I did have to exchange it for a size smaller, and that was my fault because I didn’t pay close attention to the size chart- but the sizes are true to their size chart.  Returning it was really easy, you just need to follow their instructions exactly, and it is no problem.  I actually received my new dress faster the second time which really surprised me.  All in all, I am really happy with this company, soon I will be ordering my fiancee’s wedding shirt and I’m looking forward to it.

Select Alternate choices of print and or color —- PLEASE !

What is it with you folks? Take a good look. Why are you not selecting alternate colors or prints? Why? There are hundreds of prints, more than a dozen styles. Literally thousands of choices. Think about it. It is impossible to keep stock of every print, in every color, in every size, in every style all of the time. It just can not be done. No other web site offers more variety of Made in Hawaii and Shipped from Hawaii clothing. Use the "Special Instructions" box at the bottom left of your order form as you check out to type in some alternate selections in case want you want has sold out or is temporarily out of stock.  You have all the space you need in this box. There is no character limit. If you put an item in your shopping cart ,and you read in the drop-down menu of "Available-Selections" that there is only one (1) in stock, there is a good chance someone has already beat you to the punch. The web site is updated manually every day, though out the day, to reflect sales, exchanges, returns. Many, many times, the same item with one dress, one shirt, noted in stock in the drop-down menu of "Available-Selections", is sold the same night. MauiShirts.com receives upwards to 10,000 page views a day. Our customer help staff can not take the time to call everyone who does not select alternates. We do call many. But, because we are 3 to 6 hours earlier than you, it can be difficult to do this all of the time. When you select 2nd Day Federal Express as your shipping option, we assume you are in a rush. We can’t play phone tag. We will ship your partial order and refund the out of stock or sold out item when the order ships. Orders for matching outfits will not ship. We will either call or send an email to customers who have selected matching outfits. We will cancel the order if you do not respond within three days. You can always call the toll free number to check the availability before you place your order. Don’t forget, MauiShirts.com is on the island of Maui in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Extract a pound of flesh for a fallen button

Here is a true story of a popped button. A customer purchased a shirt from MauiShirts.com’s mirrored listings on Amazon.com. A button fell off a shirt. The customer, being a lady, sent an email requesting a replacement button. Her email was not answered immediately. She then entered the following remarks in the public form of Amazon.com. “This shirt lost a button immediately. I contacted the seller, and never heard back from them. I will have to replace all the buttons on the shirt to make them match.

My response: (MauiShirts.com is entitled to have the last word when a customer leaves feedback). This is absolutely ridiculous! Why in the world would you post such utter nonsense? Buttons are FREE. All you have to do is ask. There is a toll free number to call. I have received no request from this person.

Now, you might say that was not such a bad thing for her to say. It was her experience and Amazon.com automatically asks all customers for feedback from their partner shops’ customers. But, you must realize that the MauiShirts.com customer feedback, now into the hundreds, from thousands of transactions, before her remark was at 100%. Her little remark of dissatisfaction knocked the positive feedback down to 96%. Not so bad. Well, I’m very sensitive about this sort of thing.

Then, as things go, her email is discovered in the spam, trash folder, along with the penis enlargement, Viagra and lottery scam emails. I replied to her email and asked for an address. She did not include an address to ship the buttons within all the pages of her email. My guess is she expected us to research her order, investigate the situation with the attempt to locate her address. And, I can only assume after due diligence the address located was where we should send the buttons. We can not assume anything in the Internet business. The address that you had your order shipped to, might not be the address where the buttons should be shipped to. There is little room for error. We can not, and will not, assume anything. All we ever ask is that you give us the information we need to ship you what you want.
